| Minutes
of the June 1st, 2005 OHG Business Meeting
Respectfully submitted by Secretary, Bonnie Howard.
The meeting was called to order at 7:10 by President Charity Gramm.
Secretary's Report -- The
minutes of the May meeting were read by Bonnie Howard.
Treasurer's Report -- Alicia reported that was had our not-for-profit
status back and that there was $6674 in the treasury. There was some concern
expressed that the club had spent $2826.00 from 1999-2004 on food and
bowling. It was suggested during the group discussion that perhaps there
could be a cover charge for parties, since we had spent more that we took
in. The matter was tabled for the present.
The membership list needs to be updated. -- It is not clear who had paid
2005 dues and who has not. If you are not sure please check with Alicia
Beard.
Editor's Report -- No report.
Educational Outreach Report -- Charley Rey reported that some Drury people
contacted him about taking a group of Summerscape kids to Breakdown Cave
in July.
Also the 3rd
and 4th grade summer school class from Buffalo, Missouri found our website
and contacted Michael Carter. Michael then worked with the class on caving
and cave safety. He needs volunteers to help lead the students and some
parents on a field trip to Lowell and Little Smittle caves June 18th.
MSS
Report -- Jon Beard reported that the MSS met May 14th in Rolla. He also
mentioned that it is now official -- Missouri has over 6,030 reported
caves! The next MSS meeting is on Sept. 17th.
Library Report -- No report.
Website Report -- No report.
Garrison Report -- Jon
mentioned that there is a survey trip planned on Saturday, June 25th.
Lawrence reported that some cavers went during MVOR, but some of them
parked in the wrong place and missed each other. They did, however, count
30-35 crayfish up to the second water crawl.
CCC Report --
Eddie Simmons reported that there is still a trip on the
first weekend of every month. The third anniversary of the breakthrough
will be held at the schoolhouse on July 23.
Old
Business
Jeremy Bounds is setting up a date to go to Smallin Cave for a look at
the cave and give recommendations to the owners.
The supertrip itinerary includes camping on the White River Plateau at
about 10,000 feet. There is a mountain road for 16 miles, but any car
can make it. There are no amenities, but pit toilets. Remember the effect
of the high altitude on us middle landers. You will be asked to sign a
waiver. The night temps are in the low 40s and the days in the 70s. The
caves are in the low 40s and mid 30s. For more info on the activities
ask Jon Beard or Jack Rosenkoetter. They need to know anyway who is going.
There was a lengthy discussion regarding the donation of grotto funds
toward the new gating of Doling Park Cave which will take place in November.
The grotto voted to donate $200.
New Business
It was suggested that the Ennis picnic in August of this year might want
to instead be held in Sept. or Oct. due to heat and bugs. Ennis in Oct.
might be a possibility, discussion/date tabled until the July meeting.
